# Problem Statement

The whitepaper argues that blockchain adoption is still limited by a set of persistent structural problems.

Many Layer 1 networks prioritize decentralization at the expense of performance, while others improve speed by reducing user control or governance flexibility. This leaves users, developers, and enterprises searching for a practical middle ground.

## Main issues identified

* High transaction fees
* Inconsistent throughput
* Difficult governance models
* Developer friction
* Energy inefficiency in older consensus systems

Tetreum is presented as a network that aims to address these issues through EVM compatibility, a more efficient consensus model, and a cleaner user experience.
